where horses are healed and hearts are broken
Welcome to Ashwood, Virginia's horse country. Here competition is everything to some, and people aren't afraid to let it get out of hand. The local jumper shows are possibly the most important events. But thats not all the competition with horses around here. More and more barns are popping up with better, and more expensive horses. But then there's Heartland. This place goes against all the other people in the horse comunity: they actually listen.
Heartland believes in building a bond between horse and human. it isn't about final results in the show ring, but ongoing trust. Run by Amy Fleming and her family, the barn has a very clean ruputation and has great results. But there's more than horses going on there. Underneath all the hay piled around the place, there's secrets and heartbreaks.
Where there's teenagers, heartache follows. Only now it can mean winning you the blue ribbon. Relationships are woven through both the show grounds, as well as Heartland and every other place in Ashwood. ut there are more than human hearts on the mind of a few. scarred hearts of abused horses are there too. Most of the 'rogue' horses, simply have scarred, damaged heart, needing to be repaired by trust and partnership rather than hard training and force.
